Rapper AKA’s last offering was in 2020 in an EP called Bhovamania. The album wasn’t received well, Supa Mega was blasted for his extensive use of autotune, and some felt he had lost the edge he had when he released his first album. This morning AKA, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, dropped two snippets called Long live and God Answers to no one on his timeline for the listening pleasure of his followers. This is the first leg of his promotional action as he sets up for his new album called MassCountry.
His timeline went crazy. Fans mentioned how they had been waiting for him to release something.
The snippets were met with mixed reviews, and some fans mentioned that AKA still used too much autotune and that he wasn’t rapping anymore, while some felt that he was dropping serious bars and couldn’t hold back their excitement.
AKA is one of the most celebrated musicians since he broke into the music scene with his first album, Altar Ego, in 2011. Altar Ego won AKA Best Street Urban and Male artist of the year at the 18th South African Music Awards ( SAMA 18) in 2012.
His fans are looking forward to the whole album and can hardly contain themselves, saying the snippets remind them of when he had the fire he had when he first released Altar Ego.
AKAs fans are hardcore followers of his music, and they feel they can all relate to the content he is talking about in the snippets.
AKA has gone through some hardships in his life recently. Last year he lost his girlfriend, who fell to her death from a high rise building while they were in Cape Town.AKA said he has been going through therapy since then.
In one of the snippets, AKA sounds like he has a lot of scores to settle with those he claims wrote him off.
The whole album release date hasn’t been shared yet, but from the looks of things, the album will be well received by hip hop fans.
