Thobani Nzuza shared a video of the late actor Mncedisi Shabangu acting in a riveting theatre performance. On the caption, he wrote, “Vuka Michael,” referring to the character name Mcedisi was portraying.
Artists in music or acting form an unbreakable bond as they are in the same field. Working in the arts is usually a calling many people cannot understand. Meeting people with the same passions ignites one’s soul, and the hearts grow fonder of them. Many people in the industry respected and loved Mncedisi for his work.
Theatre performance
Mncedisi acted alongside the DiepCity actor Hamilton Dlamini in the video. They were doing a thrilling play about two men discussing the apartheid system and how a black man goes about surviving. Their deliverance is captured with their scripts sounding like poetry. Another exciting element of their play is how well they manage to switch up the languages from Afrikaans to IsiZulu.
For many actors, theatre is the first home where their acting blooms to perfection. In South Africa, most actors tell the tale of first portraying their acting on the stage. Mncedisi is one of the many who began their careers in theatre.
One of the most notable roles of the actor is when he played the role of the villain in a suit, Khulekani, on Rhythm City.
He grasped the Mzansi soapie audience with his perfect articulation of playing a man living a double life. His character was unique and twisted in so many ways. One moment he is a boss and a family man; the next, he is up cosy and personal with younger men. He never slipped when playing Khulekani.
His brilliance is missed very much; hence Thobani shared the video. Thobani was indirectly saying the industry suffered a loss, and as an actor, he misses his presence in the game. It is no secret that South Africa keeps losing talent, and with every celebrity death, there is a gap that can never be filled by anyone else.
It is almost the end of August, and Mncedisi passed away on the 24th of June. Most of Mzansi has stopped talking about him and his talent. People like Thobani are the only ones who can fully understand what his worth was in this country.
