Durban Gen fans triggered by Nyaniso Dzedze GBV scene
Yesterday’s episode of Durban Gen was met with mixed reactions. Many fans were excited to see Sne finally wed, but it seems some were triggered by the GBV scene between Sne and Dr Dhlomo. When the official page of Instagram posted a clip of a scene where Dhlomo slapped Sne and fans were not impressed.
In the episode, Sne changes the travel plans and goes to the venue with Phumeza instead of Dr Dhlomo. In her defence, she said that it was because it is said to be bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding. However, this makes Dhlomo mad, who tries to call Sne, but her phone goes to voice mail.

He then walks into Sne’s dressing room when she is already late and slaps her on the cheek. After that, he tells her never to embarrass him like she had done again and compliments her. After Sphe walks out, Sne is still in shock, and she tells her mother that she can not marry him after what he has just done. However, her mother advises her to go ahead with the wedding despite witnessing the violent side of their son-in-law.

The scene did not sit well with some fans who don’t condone Gender-Based violence. One fan on Instagram even said she would not watch the episode because of that scene. After her mother advised her to go ahead with the wedding, other fans applauded the soapie for showing what happens to victims of GBV when they seek advice. Friends and family usually advise women to keep trying hoping that the person will change.

As a reaction, the actor who plays Dr Dhlomo, Nyaniso Dzedze, responded to fans today. In a post, he shared his pictures; he said that he would talk about what everyone wanted to talk about later and went ahead to call himself handsome. The actor is not blind to how close to home the character he portrayed is to some people. He is against Gender-based violence in real life and says he will later address the issue.
