Mzansi is used to seeing SAPS trending for the wrong reasons on social media. On the other hand, soldiers seem very strict and mean business all the times. This time tables have turned and a drunk soldier is trending on social media whilst he is being arrested by police officers. Many cannot believe their eyes as the soldier breaks the law.
In the video the drunk soldier refuses to be arrested but the police officers persist. Many are filming the incident and he still carries on with his behavior. The public feels pity for the soldier because he is doing all this whilst wearing his uniform.
What angers the public is that, soldiers were put in the streets to monitor the situation after the looting and violence. Two cash in transit vans were bombed but witnesses claim that neither the police nor soldiers responded fast enough to the scenes. Could this mean they will be busy doing what the soldier in the video is doing while on duty?

Soldiers are associated with discipline and only intervene when matters reach extra ordinary limits. The call for them to get into the streets was heavily criticized but it looks like it helped calm the situation. The police had tried to stop people from looting but when videos of some police officers looting emerged, the government saw it fitting to deploy soldiers.
People on social media share their views on the soldier’s behavior in public whilst wearing his uniform. Some think it is best he resigns because the level of misconduct has only one outcome which is being dismissed. Other claim soldier are only serious in public but behind closed doors are not the people we are so afraid of.
