Video: Western Cape Malmesbury prisoners escape jail in daylight, four prisoners recaptured
The department of correctional services has launched an extensive search for awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped from Malmesbury on Friday afternoon.
The search party including detectives, on foot, and in vehicles, has already covered much ground with the re-arrest of several escapees.
Members of the public are advised not to try to apprehend the escapees, but to contact the following numbers with information:

A footage making rounds on social media shows prisoners dressed in yellow prison attire escaping and running on a public road.
Some of the prisoners have been recaptured a few kilometers away from the centre. Others are believed to have hijacked a truck.
Malmesbury prisoners captured
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa says police from Malmesbury and neighbouring police stations on the West Coast with officials from the Department of Correctional Services have launched a man hunt for the prisoners who just escaped.
“The search party comprising of detectives, which is on foot and in vehicles has already covered much ground with the re-arrest of several escapees. Members of the public are advised not try to apprehend the escapees,” says Potelwa.
According to a notice issued by the Oakdale Neighborhood Watch in Bellville the watch received a notification that some of the tronk voels are in the vicinity of the N1 and R300 highways.
The watch has warned that the bandiete are likely looking for clothes so they can get out of the tronk klere to avoid being captured.
Potelwa says anyone who spots the bandiete are asked to call Lieutenant-Colonel Ntsethe on 082 469 0975 or Jonathan Bredenkamp on 072 878 2685.
“As the search intensifies additional support will be summoned. Meanwhile an investigation is underway to determine how the escape occurred.”
