Video: Tyla, South Africa’s Ariana Grande takes over amapiano
Tyla Seethal an upcoming singer and tik tok star has stolen the spotlight with her new hit single ‘getting late’. She ushers in a blend of pop and amapiano which sounds incredibly insane. Her hit single, ‘getting late’ was produced by Zimbabwean born producer Kooldrink who also features on the track.

Tyla’s hit song was released this year in late January but has already surpassed 1 million streams in less than a month. The beautiful video was shot in Johannesburg and Cape town. Initially, the video was shot before the lockdown & the shooting was halted due to the lockdown regulations, only to be resumed this year. Mzansi did not see this one coming. Tweeps have likened Tyla’s style and voice to American artist Ariana Grande.
Some may ask, who is Tyla Seethal? Tyla Seethal is a South African singer, songwriter, model and dancer. She was born on the 30th of January 2002 in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has an older sister named Whitney, a younger brother named Tyrese, and a younger sister named Sydney. Her parents and siblings are all music fanatics.
Tyla Seethal was best known for her TikTok account where she posts comedy, lip-sync, and singing videos. She has accumulated over 600,000 followers on the platform. With the success she has already gained, she is now being recognized as an upcoming artist. Tyler’s favourite artists locally are Nasty C and Shekhinah. Her dream collaboration is with Beyonce. Tyla is ushering in a new amapiano variant which is internationally appealing.
The hit song ‘Getting late’ was produced by Kooldrink, a South African based record producer, sound engineer and DJ. Kooldrink’s real name is Munashe Kugarakuripi and he was born in Zimbabwe. He is only 20 years old, but has got a cool collaborative history, encapsulating projects with some of South Africa’s notable voices, including DJ Maphorisa, Shane Eagle, YoungstaCPT, and Sho Madjozi. Besides music, the songster has apparently had a stint as a model, appearing on Boss Models South Africa, reportedly the first international agency in the country.
Tyla and Kooldrink make a fierce team, and it’s hard not to love what they have created. Although we count this the first of their collaborative tune we’ve listened to this year, we also count it a worth hearing by any lover of good music.
