Video: Tow truck driver killed after pursuing CIT heist robbers
Armed robbers shot and killed a two truck driver who pursued them after a CIT robbery.
The robbers surrounded and forced stop a Cast in Transit vehicle in Ontdekkers Road, Johannesburg, on Friday morning, according to reports from eyewitnesses.
At about 8 am, a tow truck driver followed them with the intentions of alerting the police about their whereabouts but was shot and killed before the police arrived according to Gauteng traffic police.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said they saw a blown up CIT armoured vehicle upon their arrival at the scene at the intersection of Hendrik Potgieter and Ontdekkers roads in Johannesburg.

“On assessment, medics found a security officer had sustained minor soft-tissue injuries.”
The security guard was treated and transferred to a nearby hospital.

After a few minutes, the ER24 paramedics were called to 14th Avenue for a shooting incident related to the CIT heist.
“At the scene, medics found a man lying inside a towing recovery vehicle. Assessments showed he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound in his chest.”

The man died on the scene from the gunshots wounds
The police are still investigating the matter.
Twenty four people have been killed this year from CIT robberies while many others have been injured.
Despite a slowdown in economic activity caused by the lockdown, the South Africa Banking Risk Information Centre data depicts a 29% surge in cash van attacks between 2019 and 2020.
