Video: South African truck driver dodges bullets as gunmen shoot at him
A South African trucker dodged bullets and cheated death after gunmen shot at him whilst he was driving and enjoying his music in an attempted highjacking incident.
There are two videos, one that recorded the driver and the other that recorded the gunmen.
The truck driver shot at is believed to be South African from the music he was playing and singing along and a number of pointers.
Zulus usually say, “hawee mah” when something unbelievable happens. He also has Zulu bangles on both hands (iziphandla) for ancestors to look after him. The trucker was playing Siya Mhlongo on Ukhozi FM.

The motives of the gunmen are not known, but most likely it was an attempted robbery. The attack could also be xenophobic, but it’s far fetched to assume so.
Foreign truckers have been under attack in South Africa, with local drivers going on strike this year protesting to get preferential treatment in the sector.

This is a developing story. The identity of the driver is not yet known as well as the company he works for.
Gun violence is rife in South Africa despite the government giving amnesty to people with unlicensed firearms.
The police released a statement, part of which read:
A new Firearm Amnesty for a period of six months, commencing today, 1 August 2020 until 31 January 2021, has been approved by Parliament during this past week.
The previous amnesty period which was also intended for a period of six months, between December 2019 and May 2020 was thwarted by the unexpected Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, the South African Police Service received a resounding 46 714 firearms.
However, we believe that there are much more firearms out there that still need to be surrended and we are confident the response to the previous amnesty would have been even more resounding if it were not for the pandemic.
