Video: Shock as police ignore woman reporting a GBV case
A video of a lady being ignored by the police while reporting a Gender Based Violence case is trending on social media. The public is disappointed by what they see in the video. In the video the police officers are not even concerned about the lady and do not even want to talk to her.
The victim Lethabo Mabena took to Facebook to share her experience with the rest of South Africa. Lethabo claims the police refused to speak and respond to her.
“So earlier on , I was harassed by a bouncer from a popular establishment mo Pheli . I went to ask for help from our beloved cops , did they help me? this guy said he won’t help me “hamonate jwang “ because ke case yako byaleng. He further said he can’t speak to me because yena he doesn’t want to speak in English.”
“ I then asked the lady , what’s this guys name ?she then said to me “nna Osang bora”. A whole woman , didn’t even wanna hear what I had to say. They went on to have their coffee as usual ;is this what our country has come to ?” she wrote on her page.

The public was not pleased and reacted to the video. Many encouraged her to take the matter further and not give up. It is barely a week and the police have another issue with not treating civilians the right way. Recently another cop assaulted a Bentley driver and threatened to shoot him.
Some of the comments from the public show that the case is a serious one which needs to be taken seriously. Here are some of those comments:
“Policemen & women form Attridgeville are useless have been for years. They only go to work for monthly salaries not to help the community.”
“I know that guy, he’s a stand up cop good man so there’s two side of the story, your approach or the way you presented your problem to him was wrong maybe he wouldn’t act that way for nothing”
“His job is not to be nice. He has to provide a service. There’s no such thing in the constitution that says when a person has drank alcohol, they cannot be served by the police. He is extremely incompetent and should be disciplined.”
