Municipal worker runs over officer, damages 7 cars after being told he wasn’t getting promoted
A Polokwane Municipality worker has been shot and arrested after he drove a maintenance truck over a municipality police officer and damaging a total of seven vehicles after he was informed he wasn’t getting promoted.
The 55-year-old municipal police officer sustained serious injuries and has been admitted in hospital.
A 36 year old municipal worker locked himself in a truck and started driving it in Ladanna, “manifesting violent behaviour”, Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said.
It is also reported that the man was in possession of a dangerous weapon and threatened anyone who came close to him.
“He was allegedly in possession of a dangerous weapon and threatened anyone who came closer. When other employees tried to find out what was going on, he suddenly started jerkingly driving the truck,” he added.

The man took over the vehicle before driving into a law enforcement agent, ramming into vehicles parked at the municipality offices and damaged two police vehicles that tried to stop him.
“He thereafter lost control of the vehicle and hit the wall of the building and got injured,” Mojapelo said.
In the video, a police officer is seen approaching him whilst he is groaning in pain in the car, and shooting in on the arm.
The suspect will face a case of attempted murder and seven counts of malicious damage to property. The motive for this incident is suspected to be related to his failed bid to have himself promoted.
