Video: Man unblocks community sewage line after government fails them
According to the World Health Organisation, researchers have estimated that each year there are 1.3 million to 4.0 million cases of cholera, and 21 000 to 143 000 deaths worldwide due to cholera.
Cholera is an avoidable disease as it thrives in lack of clean water and sanitation.
Countries such as Zimbabwe have experienced a Cholera outbreak in the last few years due to their economic and political situation.
WHO also estimates that there are between 11 and 21 million cases and 128 000 to 161 000 typhoid-related deaths occur annually worldwide. Like cholera, typhoid can also be eradicated.
A disgruntled Zimbabwean man took matters into his hands and unblocked his community’s sewer system after the local government failed to assist them.
The man used a shovel to scoop the dirt from the sewer pipes. He had a few people watching over him.

The news comes as Zimbabwe is in a political and economic crisis.
Annual inflation in Zimbabwe accelerated to 837.53% in July, the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency said in August. The year-on-year rate for June was 737.3%.
Zimbabweans teachers are being paid an equivalent of R570.

The country is also facing a crumbling health sector as doctors and nurses are on and off from work due to industrial action. The Health Ministry recently announced recently graduated doctors will first join the Zimbabwe National Army before they can get jobs. Army doctors are not allowed to strike, according to the country’s laws. The move was widely criticised as a violation of workers rights.
The country is still under Western sanctions following allegations of human rights abuses, election rigging, lack of freedom of expression and disrespect of property rights.
