Video: EFF supporters loot, destroy Clicks store
EFF supporters looted and destroyed shelves and products in a Clicks store in Queenstown during the #ClicksMustFall protest today.
The Economic Freedom Fighters party leader Julius Malema called for the closing of pharmaceutical retailer Clicks‘ stores nationwide over a ‘racist’ advert they made depicting African hair as dry and damaged while suggesting whites’ hair is normal hair.
The promotional pictures which have been widely shared on social media have sparked a plethora of problems for Clicks as South Africans including influential celebrities called for the boycott of Clicks stores.
The business has since apologized but South Africans believe it is not enough to convince them not to take direct action against Clicks.
Watch the video below:
Clicks’ problems were compounded after they were asked to pay for legal costs incurred by the EFF as they lost a court case to party the political party from picketing at their stores.
The party’s Commander in Chief Julius Malema believes Clicks, which is not a first time offender, must do more than just apologise.

Speaking to the media today Malema said the profitable retailer must lose a bit of money to pay for their actions.
They say give us any charity organisation and we will donate some money. Its an arrogance of capital. Every time they insult you they will pay you. We are tired of that. We are here peacefully. We are saying to Clicks South Africa close your shops. If you don’t want any problems close your shops until Friday. If you don’t want to close shops suspending the people involved in making racist adverts. Suspend the company that commissioned that.
Malema’s comments comes after Clicks apologised for not scrutinizing their supplier’s promotional pictures. The pictures were supplied by TRESemme, a subsidiary of Unilever as they promoted their hair products. TRESemme also apologised for the mistake but it seems it is going to be Clicks which is going to bear the brunt of the oversight.
