Video: Beitbridge Border Post traffic backed up ahead of Christmas
It seems Covid-19 has no intentions of giving people a break as it is already messing up with people’s Christmas plans. To curb the spread of the deadly virus, it has become mandatory to be screened at every border. This however has repercussions as the process is causing delays and hence backed up traffic as is the case at the Beitbridge Border Post.
#Beitbridge Road users travelling to Zimbabwe are stuck near Beitbridge border post. Traffic's been backed up for days now. It's believed Covid_19 screening at the border is partly responsible for the delays. #eNCA pic.twitter.com/vC1GNcguPA

Most Zimbabweans depend on goods from South Africa during the festive season and with traffic blocked at the border, Christmas is going to come late for them. The border is also a gateway to most African countries hence the traffic jam especially this time of the year.
Those who already have their Covid tests results prior to reaching the border may be compromised as the Covid certificate is valid for only 48 hours. With these delays, masses will have to fork into their pockets to get the test for the mandatory screening. The rising Covid-19 cases are causing a lot of panic this festive season as more restrictions are being put in place to curb the rapid spread of the virus.
Christmas is definitely going to be different this year as masses will spend it indoors and away from friends and family.
