In the past weeks, our current Miss South Africa, Lalela Mswane, was in Poland competing for the Miss Supranational title. Last night the competition was tough as it was the final show of the pageant. Lalela Mswane, who had made it to the top ten, was announced as part of the top three. Lalela Mswane not only won the title but made history in the Miss Supranational pageant. She is the first black woman to snatch the crown at that stage ever since the Miss Supranational pageant began. Mswane is also the first Miss SA to win that crown in the history of the Miss Supranational stage. Last but not least, Lalela, the first Miss South Africa, to be placed in the top three International pageants two times.
Challenges Lalela Mswane faced in her reign as Miss SA.
Lalela’s reign has been the hardest of all the Miss South Africa reigns in history. The beauty queen was chosen to represent South Africa in Israel for the Miss Universe pageant, which other countries boycotted. South Africans also pushed Lalela to boycott, but she went on to describe the country. Many people, including the government, withdrew their support from her, but she nevertheless brought back the 2nd Princess crown.
When she was announced as the South African representative at Miss Supranational, Lalela faced backlash again. People wanted the chance to be given to the 1st or 2nd runner-up. The support for the model was underwhelming when she reached the Miss Supranational stage. However, despite many people not supporting her, the Miss South Africa organisation was in full force behind her. Today South Africa celebrates as she has brought the crown back home and made everyone proud.
