An exceptional rare snake with two heads was found in the wild of Ndwendwe in South Africa. Some researchers have it that an animal born with two heads results from an incomplete splitting of an embryo also called bifurcation. This condition is primarily found in reptiles.
Taking to Facebook, a snake rescuer Nicky Evans shared photos of a two-headed Southern Brown Egg Eater, a harmless snake species. In the caption on his Facebook account, Nicky Evans informed that he came across the rare reptile when he was asked to collect the snake from a man who had found the slithering animal in his garden. He immediately put it in the bottle since he didn’t want anyone to harm it. This snake was struggling to walk when a man in Ndwendwe found it.
Ndwendwe is a town north of Durban in South Africa. When the man found the slithering animal, he asked Mr Evans to take it away. It was a strange sight according to Evans, as he said he didn’t come across such creatures in his life. What makes it interesting is how the animal moves; sometimes the heads will try to go different ways other times, it would rest one head on the other that seemed the most effective way of moving,” said Evans.
Some researchers have it that animals with two heads struggle to eat and hunt, making it difficult for them to survive in the wild. They can’t survive the conditions of the wildlife, making them easy prey for vultures. Evans took the animal to a place where it could be given food and professional care by vet doctors.
What makes it difficult for snakes with two heads to survive is that they have two brains, and in theory, it is known that one brain drives one side of the body and the other brain drives the other side. So the left head’s brain would control the movement and be responsible for all the organs on the left half of the body, and the right would do the same on the right side. Sometimes the heads will try to swallow one another since they have different brains and functionality.
