Vatiswa vs The Fergusons
On 8 October 2019, it is known that she wrote a 6 page long letter to Nathi Mthethwa, the arts and culture minister, which was posted on Twitter. In the letter, she claimed that Ferguson films, mistreated actors. They reportedly offered her 11 000 Rand before tax as payment for the shooting of iGazi a show which she played a leading role last season.
She said that this was not enough to cover work expenses. On top of that the number of hours were required to put in was ridiculous. She says that they had to work 12 hours a day for 6 days straight. The letter went viral and sparked debates on the internet.
Good day Vatiswa, thank you for taking the time to write this letter. This is to confirm that it has been received. https://t.co/PI44pgsKa1

The Ferguson Films’ lawyer then responded by saying that Vatiswa had the right to refuse their offer. However her retaliation and letter was intended to cause harm to the Fergusons and they would take legal action against her.
Sexual Harassment and Attempted Suicide
Vatiswa opened up in an interview on Kaya FM about how she was sexually harassed by an unnamed person at the SABC. This led to her filing a complaint and her life turned upside down. It started with doors being closed in her face.
Most of her freelance work was withdrawn and she was then barred from entering the SABC Africa offices. At this time she was being offered work on Generations and it led to the deal falling through. This sent her life into turmoil.
She says that she planned it out, cleaned the house and left some money for her son to be able to call somebody when he found her body. Vatiswa then mixed a concoction of pills, J-fluid, Handy Andy. Methylated spirits and Jik. She says that she drank it and fell terribly sick but she did not immediately go to the doctor. Her remedy was to drink hot water until she got her strength back. She only went to the doctor months afterwards.
Vatiswa says that all she wanted to do was to provide for her family and when she couldn’t it broke her heart. This made her feel hopeless. However she got past the dark period in her life and she is better now.
