Update on the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines
The Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa addresses the nation on the procurement of the COVID-19 vaccines. During the address on National Television the Minister banishes reports concerning the government’s COVID-19 vaccination programme.
“Government has noted with concern efforts by some mischief makers to cause confusion and panic within the populace over Zimbabwe’s vaccination programme.”
“With regards to the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines, we have placed an order and would like to assure the nation that misleading headline in the Newsday, today, is not only mischievous but seeks to besmirch government’s efforts,” she said
The Minister also notes that key to the COVID-19 response plan is the Experts Advisory Committee which provides science based evidence on how best the country can fight this pandemic.
Zimbabweans are urged not to be distracted and disheartened by such side shows and propaganda but to continue to partner the government in the fight against the pandemic.
Update on the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines
Minister Mutsvangwa said the 200 000 doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine donated by China and another initial batch of 600 000 which the government has purchased are expected in the country by 15 February 2021 and the 1st week of March 2021 respectively.
“An aircraft will be dispatched to China no later than 13 February 2021 to collect these vaccine doses,” she said
In addition, the Secretary of Information Nick Mangwana informs the public that a Russian Diamond Producer Alrosa PJSC will donate the Sputnik V corona virus vaccines to Zimbabwe. The Chief Executive Officer of the company Sergey Ivanov confirms this.
It seems countries from the west are concerned about Zimbabwe and are willing to help. With most Zimbabweans worried about the efficacy of the vaccines, the Minister has emphasized that science based evidence will be provided for the safety of everyone.
