Update: MDC-A activists denied bail
MDC-Alliance activists Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri were yesterday denied bail on their recent charges of insulting police officers in Harare. The activists are said to have gone against bail conditions for their previous cases.
Harare regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje denies the pair bail saying the two have higher chances of commiting further offences once they are free. He goes on to say that the two activists have no regard for bail system so freeing them is not an option for now.
Joanna Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri are popular MDC-A members. The two are charged with undermining Police authority after they allegedly hurled insults at police officers who were enforcing the lockdown regulations. This all happened during protests to free the MDC-A vice chairperson Job Sikhala who was later granted bail that same day.

The two lady activists will remain in custody up to the 13th of March while the State investigates their matter. However, Joanna and Cecilia deny all accusations. Instead, the two accuse the police for arresting them on suspicion that they were part of an illegal demonstration. The ladies claim that they were not part of the demonstrations.
Harare West Member of Parliament Hon Joanna Mamombe and her accomplice Cecilia Chimbiri claim that they were coming from consulting their medical practitioners when the police arrested them. The two will return to Chikurubi Maximum Prison.
