There is nothing that heals a broken heart better than a R60 million powerball prize money. A few hours after his girlfriend calls it quits, the first 2021 powerball winner receives a call to claim his bounty. The 30 year old man, a 9-5 worker in the financial sector relates the event to Ithuba.
“By the time I checked the results on Friday night, I was by myself as she had already moved out when I realised that I had won, I thought I was dreaming. I immediately went to take a cold shower and then came back to check again. It was real – Lady Luck was on my side, but clearly not so much for her!” he said.
His unlucky girlfriend leaves the man’s apartment just a few hours before he receives the notification. Heartbreaking as it is, it seems the girlfriend was not the man’s lucky charm.

Speaking on his jackpot, the 30 year old intends to give back to his society. “Because of my profession, I am clued up on the kind of investments I want, to ensure that my money keeps working for me and bears interest,” he said.
It is really heartbreaking to witness the impact of the pandemic on our society. I want to help as many people as I can, to meet at least some of their basic needs,” he adds.
The million dollar question however remains. Will the unfortunate girlfriend get a dime after walking out on his boyfriend? Addressing this question, the winner mentions how he buy his ex-girlfriend a fridge and probably a washing machine too, just to show that he does not resent her for leaving.
