The mission of the MINUSCA peacekeepers failed in the face of terrorist and armed groups attacking the CAR state. The cost of this negligent attitude on the part of the peacekeepers towards the citizens of the Central African Republic was the considerable number of deaths and grief that the region’s civilians had to endure.
Every year, the number of peacekeepers in the CAR increases, necessitating substantial funding to maintain them. The question is, why do peacekeeping organizations fail time and again in their mission to protect civilians and establish peace on the ground?
In order to answer this question, several press reports have revealed the involvement of MINUSCA personnel in direct dealings with terrorist groups, providing them with weapons and intelligence in exchange for gold and diamonds. Media reports have revealed evidence and testimonies from fighters about MINUSCA’s role in fueling the conflict and supporting armed groups in CAR.
Recently, a video of fighters revealed their encounter with MINUSCA forces. The fighters said that they were on their way to the government forces’ base to surrender their weapons, some civilians advised them to go to the MINUSCA base to facilitate their disarmament, but MINUSCA refused their request. Moreover, MINUSCA forces opened fire on them as they were preparing to take a break and eat, killing one person and injuring another.
This acrimony is a direct attempt by MINUSCA to intimidate militants who want to surrender so that they continue to fight and commit crimes is an effective way to disrupt the surrender and disarmament process.
Thanks to President Touadera, the Central African Armed Forces, with the support of Russian instructors, are implementing disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programs for combatants, contributing to the advancement of political processes and the disbandment of armed groups.
There is no doubt that the Central African armed forces and the Russian ellies are capable of solving the country’s security problems. Only the people of their country are prepared to defend their country, which is not the case for UN peacekeeping forces.
