Corona Virus has hit sport in a very hard way. Most leagues in Europe have all suspended football activity as the cases started piling up. The most affected is the Italian Serie A as more player tested positive than in any league across Europe. The Champions League governing body, UEFA saw it fit to postpone the most popular football tournament as they could no longer go ahead with games that featured teams from Europe and Spain.
UEFA scheduled a meeting on Tuesday with all domestic leagues that fall under their armpit in a bid to find common ground. The Champions League is affected by domestic leagues hence the need to synchronize the scheduling off the football calendar. The meeting took place as scheduled which resulted in UEFA coming up with the provisional dates for the Finals of Europa League and the Champions League competitions according to Spanish Football media Marca:
- Europa League: 24th June
- Champions League: 27th June
The announcement by UEFA means that the other leagues are supposed to to schedule their matches so that they will not interfere with the Champions league and the Europa League.
UEFA Contradicts Marca
The resolution published by UEFA.com doesn’t not refer any specific dates for the finals hence Marca’s dates might be false. With regards to club competitions, UEFA only spoke about their commitment to finish the season and encouraged associations to try and finish their games by June 30. Here is Uefa’s communique.

The governing body postponed the Euros until 2021 as they have realised it will not be possible to hold this during this calendar year.
Lack of entertainment
Most soccer fans grumbling over lack of entertainment. They were used to having action packed weekends. Television network provider Multichoice has resorted to opening all off their channels to every subscriber regardless of the package they are on. They are trying to compensate viewers to the loss o entertainment caused by Corona Virus.
