Zimbabweans escape from South Africa prison: Two Zimbabweans Morris Tyavana and Medicine Girenzi have been named as part of the four inmates that escaped from Kgosi Mampuru correctional services. SAPS confirmed that four dangerous inmates have escaped from a local prison.
The inmates are reported to have escaped from Kgosi Mampuru Local Correctional Centre during the early hours of 16 May 2020. They are remand detainees and they managed to escape from cell no C unit, C3 cell number 5.
The escapees managed to escape through the pipe shaft onto the roof of the correctional centre, from where they used a self made rope to lower themselves onto the Kitchen roof and possibly jumped of at the North Western side of facility.
One of the inmates have been positively identified as Morris Tyavana Zimbabwean Citizen SAPS Case number 481/02/19 Case number: 14/758/19. He was arrested by SAPS Wierdabrug arrested for armed robbery and other robbery related cases.
Another inmate has been identified as Medicine Girenzi with registration number: 217640854 and SAPS CAs number: 117/07/17. He is wanted by SAPS Seshego for house breaking and theft. He also has a second warrant SAPS CAs number: 241/10/17 by SAPS Garsfontein for house break and theft.
They are not the first Zimbabweans to escape from a prison in South Africa.
The remaining two escapees remain have not been identified for now.

South Africa government released over 100 Zimbabwean convicts from its prisons this month in a move aimed at decongesting the correctional facilities that have been hit by the covid-19 pandemic. Zimbabwean authorities confirmed to receiving its convicted citizens whom will go under 14 days mandatory quarantine before being integrated into the society.

Zimbabweans are known to cross the border from Zimbabwe to South Africa in search or jobs and better living conditions. Some of them have no qualifications and will resort to robbery and other criminal activities as a way to survive.
