Tso Vilakazi reveals how he blew millions of rands in his playing career
Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi narrated how he blew all the millions he earned from his playing career.
The contract I signed with Pirates, I was not sure if it was for three or five years. They introduced me to an agent. He negotiated the contract for me. They invested some money and gave me the rest. I think is was R60,000. The salary was about R18,000. My contract was ending towards the end of 2007 I was earning R10,000. When we played for Bafana Bafana I was paid R39,000 and there was also an allowance.
In Denmark, the signing fee was R350,000. The signing fee for Sundowns was R2 million and my salary was R1,2 million.
I bought clothes and furniture for the house. I had a house in Naturena. I bought the house for R500,000 after I divorced my ex-wife.
When I was driving back from training from Sundowns, the traffic was killing me, so I bought a house in Kyalami Glen for about R2 million.
The couch was for R50,000 and curtains for R160,000 and I had three televisions in the house.

His friend says Vilakazi’s downfalls was his houses and girlfriends.
He would fly out to see girlfriends or fly them in. During his time at Orlando Pirates, he had one car and he used to drive a company car. He had a BMW 325iS and a BMW 325Ci, he said.
Vilakazi continued to narrate his story,
Then I got a Nissan Xtrail, a BMW 135i and an Audi.
When I found out Sundowns were not going to renew my contract, I blamed Aces. I had a fracture at Sundowns and they loaned me to Aces. They were supposed to pay a signing fee and salaries and they did not. When I asked them about my money, there were stories now, that he brought a woman into the camp and that I came into the camp whilst I was drunk.
When I was playing for Sundowns, I never used to do those things. I was framed and my image was tarnished. I could not pay for the house and the car so I had to return the car and try to rent our the house. I went back home and started rebuilding my life from scratch and things started coming together.
