Zimbabweans have resorted to waking since the 6pm curfew came into effect as the country faces a shortage of transport. The government assumed full responsibility of public transport when the lockdown was first announced in March but has not provided adequate buses through the ZUPCO franchise arrangement.
Some Chitungwiza residents walked for as far as 30 km yesterday when the 6pm curfew came into effect whilst they were still in town. President ED Mnangagwa announced the tightening of lockdown measures as Covid-19 cases are increasing. Part of the measures was introduction of a 6am to 6pm curfew.
The citizens who had gone town for work and business could not get government buses to return home.
