Legendary actor Bongani Madondo is happy to have joined record-breaking SABC soapie Uzalo and he marches ahead with his colourful acting career.
The actor, who has spent over 20 years playing different roles, will assume the role of a gangster, a new high in his career.
Madondo previously played the role of Sifiso Ntuli on Skeem Saam, says he is excited to play the role of Amos the gangster, previously played by Ernest Msibi, who once played Chester on drama series Yizo Yizo.
Bongani told local publication Daily Sun that he will chart his own path and will not copy the old Amos.
He said he is joining Uzalo to play the character and not the departed actor. He said he has been briefed enough to understand his role on the character.
“It was not easy, but I have to bring the character to life. Perhaps that’s why I’m already recognised as Amos in the township,” said Madondo.
The role of Amos in Uzalo is that of a gangster and a pimp”He steals cars and also sells girls to mafia guys,” Bongani said.
Amos grows from just being a gangster to a mafia in the drama series.
There is also an educational side of the character as Bongani realised. He says he has learnt the bad side of crime as Amos was shot by MaNgcobo, played by Dawn Thandeka King and is now using a wheelchair.
Uzalo’s new Amos also said he now understands the problems faced by people living with disabilities as he experiences the problems from his new role.
He says he wishes if he had the money and power to start a campaign aimed at helping people with disabilities.
“They must know that they are also human beings and if I had the power, I’d start a campaign to teach people about disabilities,” said Madondo.
