Tools down at Harare Hospital as Covid-19 claims matron
Midwives at Harare hospital are refusing to work due to lack of personal protective clothing. This is after a matron Miriam Pundu at the hospital died with Covid-19. Nurses who are frontline workers during this pandemic and lockdown feel derelict. This comes after failure to procure adequate gear to combat against this deadly virus. The midwives at the hospital also weigh in on the matter;
“We are going for 12 hours with one face mask. Our lives are at risk says Harare Hospital Midwives.”
As if its not enough sixty more nurses tested positive to Covid-19 at Harare Hospital. This is just two days after the country declares a national lockdown due to the rapid increase of infection and deaths due to Covid-19.

In what seems to be an internal war the Principal nursing officer at Harare Hospital Lucy Godzongere addressed the mob of protesting nurses. She asks the nurses what the upheaval is all about. The principal nursing officer goes on to say “mukuda kuonererwa” which means you are growing too big for your shoes.
Although Nurse Godzongerere goes to pledge that she will consult her superiors and get PPE immediately, her prior statements seem to be showing some form of divide among the health workers at Harare Hospital.
This whole situation is happening when Harare is recording some of its highest figures in infections since the pandemic struck. Twitter goes in frenzy as people start weighing in on the matter and attacking Lucy Godzongere for her statement. This is what some of the tweeps had to say, “
She is a witch in nurse garbs
The arrogance of the Principle Nursing officer . It’s so wrong !!
This PNO is so rude, poor public relations and handling of a crisis, is this what they are taught at their school of nursing admin,
