Time for jail: DJ Maphorisa ARRESTED for assaulting girlfriend Thuli Phongolo
Amapiano music producer DJ Maphorisa has been taken into custody for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, actress Thuli Phongolo. According to a report by City Press, Phongolo reported the incident to the authorities and made a statement at the Sandton Police Station.
Former Generations: The Legacy actress Thuli Phongolo has accused Amapiano music producer DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, of attacking her inside her Sandton apartment. According to a statement made by Phongolo at the Sandton Police Station, the altercation occurred when she confronted DJ Maphorisa about an argument they had the previous night.
“On Sunday 2023/5/7 at about 12pm, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa. I confronted him so that we can talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig,” said Phongolo in the statement
Phongolo claims that DJ Maphorisa became aggressive and slapped her in the face before grabbing her by the neck and taking her to the balcony.
“He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck,”
DJ Maphorisa allegedly took Phongolo’s phone during the fight but later returned it. Phongolo then called her manager, who took her to the police station, where she opened a domestic abuse case against DJ Maphorisa. He is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assault. The cause of their initial argument is unclear, but sources cited by City Press claim that the couple has been experiencing tension recently due to accusations of infidelity.
“They had a fight in early December after accusations of infidelity. They had another fight last month but never got to the police station,” revealed the source.
