Thirsty robbers request for beer first during hotel robbery: With the continued ban on alcohol sales in South Africa lockdown level 4, robbers pounced in a hotel and ask for beer first. Security details of a Rustenburg based Stay Easy hotel in the North West province are still traumatized by the robbery ordeal. They revealed that they were held at gun point with heavily armed robbers whose main aim was alcohol.

The Stay Easy hotel manager Willie Kruger revealed that the robbers targeted alcohol storage facilities and also requested access to rooms. He said the security details are still traumatized by the event and will be receiving counseling.

“They requested access to alcohol storage facility, which proved that they were after alcohol. This is a different robbery. We’re in contact with the security company just to be more vigilant obviously and just the guys that work at night as well just to be a bit safer and be vigilant on their job and about their surroundings,” said Willie.
The robbery happened just a few minutes after the lockdown curfew.
South Africa is still under lockdown level 4 which implies that most industries are opened but a curfew is placed to curb unnecessary movement. The government made it compulsory to wear face masks whenever one is leaving his/her house.
The robbery come in a moment when robbery cases are on the low ever since the lockdown implementation. Meanwhile due to the total ban of alcohol and cigarette sales, the illegal alcohol and cigarettes sales are on the rise.
