Umkhokha has been one of the most-watched shows on television in the past year. The series surpassed people’s expectations in a good way. Before the first season ended, the show and its actors would trend every Sunday evening to Monday morning after an episode was aired. Today fans have woken up to the news that Umkhokha is turned into a Telenovela when the second season starts.
According to entertainment news reporter Phil Mpela has let the cat out of the bag that plans are underway for the faith-based series to be turned into a Telenovela. Word in the rumour mill is that famous writer Bongi Ndaba has been hired as the head writer for the series from the second season.

Fans who have been impatiently waiting for the show’s second season have received the news with a lot of disappointment. Some fans say they loved the show as a series. Now that it will be turned into a telenovela, they feel that writers would drag the storyline. Some fans were commenting on Phil Mpela’s tweet that the producers are ruining a good series and will probably lose viewers because of it.

Umkhokha may lose viewership if it’s turned into a Telenovela
Its common knowledge that nowadays, Television viewers are more interested in short series than long-running telenovelas. This has seen Multichoice cancelling shows like Legacy because viewership is low for telenovelas. With all the statistics that have shown that telenovelas become boring for viewers to watch in the long run, it’s understandable that fans are mad at the decision.

However, after seeing some of Bondi Ndaba’s work, like Erased on Moja Love. Some fans feel she will do justice to the story. Also, having the show turned into a Telenovela means that the cast will not be out of jobs soon. That is exciting news for the actors involved. We can only wait to see what the second season will bring and whether replacing Chris Radebe is good. The producers of Umkhokha are yet to make a statement regarding this issue.
