Kaizer Chiefs legend Johannes ‘Bricks’ Mudau has raised concerns over the state of affairs at the Soweto giants, describing the current struggles as “abnormal.”
Chiefs in Crisis
Amakhosi have slumped to three consecutive league defeats, leaving them sixth in the Betway Premiership standings. Over the past 11 years, the club has managed just one trophy — the Nedbank Cup — a record Mudau believes highlights deeper problems within the organisation.
Mudau Calls for Leadership
“Teams do go through poor spells, but what’s happening at Chiefs is abnormal. They need strong leadership,” Mudau told KickOff. He suggested that systemic issues have plagued the club since Kaizer Motaung’s children assumed greater control of operations. “When Bra K was in charge, the team was more successful. Now, decisions being made don’t seem to be working. He must step in and take control,” Mudau added.
Struggles Under New Management
According to Mudau, Chiefs have failed to replicate the vision laid out by Motaung when he founded the club. “His children are trying too hard to emulate his success, but the results are not there,” he said.
Baloyi Adds to Criticism
Another club legend, Brian Baloyi, echoed Mudau’s concerns, pointing to instability in team selection. He questioned the constant changes to the starting XI, suggesting they reflect deeper coaching issues. “The co-coaches must be transparent. Are these changes due to injuries or are they just experimenting? This looks like an amateur side — you can’t call it professional if the lineup changes every week,” Baloyi said.
Urgent Need for Change
With pressure mounting from former players and fans alike, Chiefs face calls for decisive action to restore stability and return to winning ways.
