The River’s Mabutho has seen an upgrade to his role on the soapie. Thembinkosi Mthembu plays Mabutho on 1 Magic’s The River.
The upgrade will see Thembinkosi enjoying the benefits of a bona fide lead character.These will include his name appearing in the opening sequence of the show as well as a pay rise for the new season of the River.
The River’s Mabutho upgraded to lead actor
The actor made his entry on The River last year, during the series’ 3rd season. Mabutho is cousin to Paulina and Lindani, played by Lunga Shabalala, who was written off. Mabutho had an affair with Lindani’s which ultimately led to Lindani’s death. Mabutho and Tumi, played by Larona Moagi, were together until Larona’s character.
Mabutho taking lead on the telenovela will mean him going up against Lindiwe to avenge Tumi’s death.
With the departure of one lead character, this opened doors for room for a new lead. Thembinkosi had fast become a favourite and had established himself well on the set thus leading to him being the easy pick for the lead character.
Thembinkosi Mthembu’s role on The River is his second role on screen. The actor studied and graduated for a diploma in Drama and Production Studies from the Durban University of Technology in 2017. Before going on screen, he did different odd jobs.
However, he then landed the role of Junior on The Republic. The River was his second on screen gig after The Republic. Although his character is not necessarily a fan favourite, the actor definitely is a favourite without doubt. The actor became a hit especially among ladies who found him charismatic, attractive and charming what with the tall dark, handsome and dimpled vibe he has. Fans will be sure to stay glued to The River as they will definitely be seeing more of the handsome actor also in a more important role.
Thembinkosi has since bagged roles in other productions including playing Shift Manager on the MTV Base drama series MTV Shuga Down South 2. He is also a theatre actor. He also landed a role on AKA’s production.
The 26 year old actor is also daddy to a young princess. When asked about his daughter, it is without doubt that she id the center of his world.
“Her presence has changed how I view the world. When she was born, I wasn’t working, and this posed a challenge because I couldn’t provide for her. Thankfully, my mother lent a helping hand by assisting with rent and paying for my daughter’s needs at the time. Now that I’m in a better position financially, I’m fully enjoying fatherhood”
