One of Mzansi’s finest news readers, Pearl Shongwe, was found mysteriously dead inside her Waterfall apartment and the police and family responded. Shongwe had been a news reader at SABC’s Metro FM, and many fans have fallen in love with her. Her outstanding ability and skill to glue fans on the screen have made her a fan favourite for the news—what a loss to the whole nation and mainly to the Shongwe family.
Pearl was seen the day before, and everyone close to her never imagined hearing such news come the next morning. She looked fine and healthy and in high spirits. The cause of her death is yet to be revealed to the public, but it remains shocking that we no longer have our Metro FM’s Pearl.
What the Gauteng Police said about Pearl Shongwe’s mysterious death
Police spokesperson Col Noxolo Kweza said:
Midrand police have opened an inquest docket after a 35-year-old woman was found dead today [Tuesday]. The inquest will assist in establishing the cause of death. The woman will be identified once the family has been notified.
The Polo fields body corporate where Pearl Shongwe lived also shared a statement saying:
We regret to inform you that one of our residents has passed away inside her unit. The resident’s family has been notified and is presently at the Polo fields.
You may notice police, ambulance and coroner vehicles in the estate during the day. Please do not be alarmed, as they are attending to the situation.
Pearl Shongwe’s family confines that she was found dead in her Waterfall Apartment.
Many fans did not believe the news was valid until the family confirmed it. A family spokesperson Khehla Tshabalala confirmed on Tuesday evening, saying:
With great sadness, the Shongwe family announces the untimely passing of our beloved daughter Ntombifuthi Pearl Shongwe. She passed away in her sleep.
We kindly request that we be given the privacy to mourn her passing during this trying time. Our daughter was a celebrated radio broadcaster and TV presenter. Her presence will forever live on within our hearts. Further details will follow in due course.
