He had the plug and had the money to show for it. Undoubtedly, Mandla Mthembu was a celebrated business mogul who hogged the headlines for the wrong reasons before going AWOL.
His story is unique and challenging to explain to many. The bubbly mogul was best known for driving around with the finest rides the world had at that time. Apart from his soft life, he made all sorts of headlines for dating Mzansi’s A list celebrities, the likes of Khanyi Mbau and Zodwa Wabantu.
Despite having an interesting love life story to tell, his fall from the grace of riches to the grass of poverty and homeless pains, Mzansi. As his woes continued to haunt him, he felt from the limelight, and up to now, his whereabouts are not even known.
Mandla Mthembu’s Soft Life
Mthembu wasn’t in the same Whatsapp group of riches as Patrice Motsepe but was a celebrated business mogul who was best known for showing off his riches. Of interest is the fact that he was the owner of the Martial Eagle Investment company. Well, he hogged headlines when he tried to strike an R7 billion deal in 2007 by then; he had an estimated net worth of R2.5 billion, according to several sources. However, he became R80 million richer when he sued Transnet, Sechaba Printing.

Mthembu’s controversial marriage with Khanyi Mbau
She first met Mbau when she was 19 when she walked into Divine Lounge and, against all odds, walked up to her and promised to marry her out of the blue. Six months later, the two bumped into each other whilst checking out Beverly Hills Hotel. Mbau didn’t have a car to take her to the airport, and Mthembu did the unthinkable and gave her his Porsche keys to take a ride to the airport.
The two then started dating despite having a 30-year age difference. However, in the mix of things, the two got married in 2007. They called it quits two years into their marriage and had a daughter from it in the wake of their marriage. Mbau is said to have it quits when Mthembu’s ship was sinking. She later revealed that she was in a relationship for the money.
Relationship with Zodwa Wabantu
Despite being married and in an affair with Mbau, Mthembu cheated on them with Zodwa. According to many close sources, the business mogul was more interested in Zodwa than anyone. Zodwa once stirred controversy when she revealed Mthembu was his son’s father.

Despite living large, Mthembu was no longer keeping good records of his finance’s. His wife, Dolly Matshabe, once told the public that he was too broke to afford a counter book for his 16-year old daughter. In the wake of these daring rumours, he rubbished them and insisted that he had a fleet of new exotic cars to prove a point.
However, in 2010, he was not only broke by homeless. Even now, Mzansi can’t even connect the dots on what happened to him. To make matters worse, he lost several properties under his name and was forced to live in Craydon Motel in Isando. However, he was later forced out after failing to pay R300 daily rental. Since then, he disappeared from the radar. Rumour mill has it that he moved in with a friend.
