The Estates, the new primetime telenovela on SABC 3 could be Clive Morris’ moment
Clive Morris is a veteran in the South African entertainment industry especially in regards to soap operas and telenovelas. His company Clive Morris Productions (CMP) has brought you Ashes to Ashes, Broken Vows and Isono to name a few. The Estates is another CMP production set to air on 1930 on SABC 3 which was Isidingo’s timeslot. Will this telenovela bring CMP the reputation it hopes for?
What is The Estates all about?
Well, so far no new information has been released about the storyline of The Estates which is worrying. Usually either the channel or production company would give the audience a little taste. Fortunately we know which actors have been cast for the show. Some if the cast members include Sdumo Mtshali, Mpho Sibeko, Matli Mohapeloa, Clementine Mosimane and veteran Don Mlangeni. This is most definitely a star studded cast with some having had roles in Isibaya and Generations: The Legacy. So far so good on that front. We will update you if anything develops.
What went wrong?
CMP has been around the South African entertainment industry for a while now with successful lifestyle television shows and documentaries. However, there is one genre that Clive Morris can’t seem to crack and that as primetime soap operas. From boring storylines to timeslots that clash with bigger soapies the production the production company hasn’t seen much success in that field. We’re hoping that Morris’ will redeem himself with The Estates. Other soap operas that Clive Morris Productions have produced are Ashes to Ashes and Broken Vows. Of course they did not age well and were decommissioned. The competition is stiff with CMP competing with the powerhouse production company Ferguson Films and breakthrough stars Tshedza Productions who brought us The River.
Is this a Clive Morris Production come back?
We hope that CMP will be able to bounce back in this regard. It has seen success with other kinds of shows so let’s see if they’ll find another winning formula. The Estates is not the only soapie that Clive Morris has up his sleeve. Clive Morris has partnered with BET Africa to produce Isono. The show had great reviews from Twitter users and its opening scene took many breaths away. If The Estates is anything like it then we are in for a good time.
