Thando Thabethe to star in new crime series
Thando Thabethe is one of South Africa’s media darlings who has been on our screens for a while. Her career in the entertainment industry began while she was still at the University of Joburg as she had a spot on radio on UJFM. In 2011 she got a spot on YFM. Thando Thabethe got a role as the spoilt Thando Nkosi in the sitcom My Perfect Family. The show lasted for 3 seasons. Thando moved from YFM to 5FM where she joined the The Roger Goode Show. Three years later she got her own show on 5FM, the Thando Thabooty Show and ultimately the Thabooty Drive. After 5 years of working with 5FM, Thando Thabethe called it quits last year. Her departure was one of radios most sad moments. Not only that but the drama surrounding her departure became a story of note. The actress took to tell her story on Twitter.
“On Friday 28 Feb I had a meeting with the PM who let me know that the show was renewed, as per our annual negotiations. I then tried to negotiate a raise of R200 an hour. At this point he had agreed for me to take 2 weeks leave to shoot housekeepers. Fast forward the following Monday I hear that the Thabooty drive will be no longer as it doesn’t fit into the 2/5 year plan of the SABC. This info I hear from colleagues or people on my show. At this point I hear that the replacement of the show had already been notified and so had my current teammates. Note: I was the last to find out that my very own show no longer existed!!!”
This did not sit well with the host, even when offered a different slot she walked away.
Thando joined Generations as Nolwazi Mabuzo where she spent three years from 2014 to 2017. The actress also has vast hosting experience that had her hosting her own television talk show, Thando Bares it All which aired on TLC. The show got her nominated for Best TV Host and Best Talk Show. The actress walked away with the Best Talk Show win.
Thando moved on to play the lead role in Housekeepers as Linda Ndlovu, a woman seeking justice for her mother disguised as a housekeeper.
The actress has also been in the winners circle of Box Office hits. Thando played Zinhle Malinga in the 2019 box office hit Love Lives Here.
Last year Thando starred in the Netflix series, How to Ruin Christmas.
