In Tears: Gomora, actress Sannah Mchunu broke into tears giving a speech after winning the DSTV viewers award.
Sannah Mchunu’s story is one of the most iconic stories of actors in Mzansi. Despite facing challenges at the beginning of her career, Sannah did not call off the shots. It took her over ten years in the business to come to the top in Mzansi. Seasoned actresses like Zikhona Sodlaka, Deli Malinga, Shoki Mmola and Thembi Seete were all nominated for the award and had put their eyes on the price. Sannah never believed that she was now the current DSTV Viewers Choice favourite actress, given the competition across South Africa.
Many of Mzansi’s finest artists gathered for the event as they celebrate Mzansi’s top achievers of the year. Upon winning the prestigious award, Sannah delivered an emotional speech that left the whole place silent like a graveyard while she pours into tears. She couldn’t hold it back. As many suggested, she has been carrying Gomora on her shoulders since Xolisa Melusi left the show.

Hard work has paid for Sannah, and it’s a celebration to the whole Gomora family that made it possible for Sannah. She had produced amazing scenes on Gomora, from shaming Mr Lebalo at the spelling Dee to her jealousy towards Bongani.
On her special day, Sannah came in an expensive one-armed red dress. Top artists from several DSTV programmes to music were present as Zodwa took the stage to deliver her speech. She thanked the Gomora family, her family before she paused and broke into tears. The loved actress attempted to hold it back but could not find a word to throw in her speech. She could only repeat the word ngiyabonga, ngiyabonga before she couldn’t manage. Full of joy and emotions, Sannah went straight into the arms of Thembi Seete, who hugged her tightly.

The rise of Gomora actress ‘Zodwa’ Sannah Mchunu.
Two years ago, no one would believe that Sannah Mchunu would at least be a nominee for the DSTV Viewers Choice awards in 2022. Before Gomora, the fifty-year-old actress was never considered one of the best actresses in Mzansi. She featured on several shows like Rhythm City, The Queen and Muvhango but never managed to break her stone of gold. In 2020, Sannah joined Gomora playing the role of Zodwa, a part she nailed as if she was living her real life. Her match with the Zodwa character took her to the top of Mzansi as one of the finest actresses of the decade.
