Tbo Touch’s salary at Metro FM gets Mzansi talking, as radio host returns after 6 years
No doubt he has the plug and the bling too. With an illustrious career spanning years, it costs a fortune to lure Tbo Touch to host a drive time show on radio. However, Metro FM has defied against all odds and rehired Tbo Touch in the mix of things. He has fast become one of Mzansi’s finest.
The station and Tbo Touch has a history. A few years ago, he was axed after having a fallout with the management. He has been out of the game of late when it comes to the radio but was pushing his side hustles.
No doubt the reunion didn’t come cheap since Metro FM had to break the bank to rehire him. The radio host extraordinaire Tbo Touch will be taking home almost half a million a month. It seems as if Metro FM is in a desperate bid to arrest listenership bleed and woo back lost advertisers.
The celebrated DJ left the station five years ago after being rumoured to have refused to advertise a Hyundai advert. In the wake of his exit, he started his Touch HD company. Rumour mill has it that the Hyundai advert saw SABC losing at least R16-million worth of advertising.

The veteran club DJ will be taking back his famous afternoon drive show. He hogged the headlines and popularized the drive show due to his impromptu interviews with international A-list celebrities. Tbo Touch made all sorts of headlines when he interviewed billionaire boxer Floyd Mayweather and Hip Hop legend and multi-millionaire 50 Cent.
Close sources say that SABC CEO Madoda Mxakwe has been chasing Thabo Molefe’s signature for almost a year now. It has been established that Tbo Touch had swept their offer under the carpet because of how the station treated him when he was still part of the station. However, in the wake of several talks, the celebrated DJ finally agreed to join the station.
Rumour mill has it that Touch initially wanted a payout of R1-million salary per month, but Madoda made it clear that the station was not in a position to pay him that sum of money. However, bother parties later agree to a monthly salary of R480 000 per month.
Another source confirmed that his return would see him taking charge of his slot from drivetime sponsors and advertisers. Also, he has a clause of R30 000 car allowance because of this.
