SuperSport Presenter Neil Andrews Undergoes Triple Bypass Surgery
SuperSport presenter Neil Andrews is set to undergo triple bypass surgery.
He was admitted to hospital on Sunday with a surgery scheduled for today. This follows reports that Neil was admitted to hospital on Saturday after “pains in his solar plexus became unbearable”.
The highly respected TV presenter will be operated at the Fourways Life Hospital in Fourways in Johannesburg.
Niel Andrews was born in England before emigrating with his family to South Africa in 1975. He is married to Hlohlo. The couple has three children together; Elijah Gabriel Andrews (10 months), Noah Benjamin (2), and Brighton Nathaniel (7). He also has a daughter Melissa Jade (23) and son Gregory (19) from a previous relationship.
In June Andrews opened up about the stressful impact Covid-19 has had on him and his family. He said the lockdown has been a tough time for him financially and emotionally. Andrews said he however reminds himself that he is blessed with a beautiful family.
SuperSport confirmed Niel Andrews’ hospitalization and that he will undergo an operation today.
Neil Andrews began his career as an announcer, race commentator, and journalist for the Cape Turf Clubs. He was then employed by M-Net as ION’s Programme Manager from 1991 to 2000. As a result of his extensive research into Sport’s Betting in South Africa, Neil was the first state witness at the King Commission of inquiry into Hansie Cronje’s betting case.
Neil introduced Sport’s Betting in South Africa and was the Executive Producer and Host for Superliet AM and The Ruling Price. He is currently the host of the award-winning show Vodacom Super Saturday. He is employed by SuperSport as principle broadcast anchor for live international soccer and rugby coverage.
