The latest Bafana Bafana squad is buzzing with Brazilian brilliance as Mamelodi Sundowns once again prove why they are the kings of South African football. Coach Hugo Broos revealed his squad on Thursday afternoon, and a staggering NINE Sundowns stars have been called up to proudly carry the South African flag in two crucial clashes against Lesotho and Benin on 21 and 25 March.
First, Lesotho will face Bafana Bafana at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, before Broos’ men journey to Benin to continue their quest for dominance. It’s no surprise that Sundowns have become the backbone of the national team, given their commanding performances and undeniable quality in the domestic league.
The elite nine representing the Brazilians are:
- Ronwen Williams
- Khuliso Mudau
- Aubrey Modiba
- Grant Kekana
- Teboho Mokoena
- Jayden Adams
- Bathusi Aubaas
- Thapelo Morena
- Iqraam Rayners
The squad also sees the inclusion of the in-form Thabo Moloisane, while fan favorites Percy Tau and Lyle Foster make their much-anticipated return to the national setup.
Victory in both fixtures is critical as Bafana Bafana seeks to secure their spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. Currently sitting second in Group C with seven points, they are neck-and-neck with Benin and Rwanda. However, having beaten Benin 2-1 in their first leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium, South Africa is in a strong position to take control of their destiny.
Preparations kick off on 18 March when the 23-man squad gathers in Johannesburg. After their first training session, they’ll head to Polokwane to finalize strategies and fine-tune their game plan.
