EFF Leader Julius Malema has fumed at the suggestions that the government is to relax rules of the covid-19 lockdown.
He posted on Twitter: If the state is not going to be firm and not negotiate with any non-essential sector of the economy for relaxation of lockdown regulations, this lockdown will collapse, barbarism will emerge and the deadly coronavirus will spread like wildfire: millions will die. Stop it cowards!
Malema’s anger comes after Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula relaxed the terms taxis were operating on.
When the lockdown started last Thursday, Mbalula announced that the taxis were ti carry on with their work only if they carry up to 50% capacity. Following pressure from the taxis who were now operating at a loss, he changed on Wednesday and directed taxis to load up to 100% provided the passengers wear face masks.
Mbalula did not take long to change the terms on the same day. He allowed the taxis to operate ay up to 70% capacity with or without masks. These changes did not go well with the former ANC Youth League leader who thought the Minister is backtracking on the fight against coronavirus.
