Stellenbosch FC’s continental adventure came to a crashing halt on Sunday as they were swept aside 3-0 by AS Otoho d’Oyo at Stade Alphonse Massemba-Debat, sealing their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.
A Night to Forget
The Maroons were undone by a ruthless Otoho side. Pomi Nzaou opened the scoring in the 38th minute, before Klegnime Kone doubled the advantage just before halftime. Kone returned in the second half to complete his brace in the 79th minute, leaving Stellenbosch with no way back.
Group C Struggles
The defeat leaves Stellenbosch rooted to the bottom of Group C with only one game remaining. Their record—one win, one draw, and three losses—has yielded just four points, five fewer than Otoho, who sit second.
For coach Gavin Hunt, the numbers paint a grim picture. The former Kaizer Chiefs boss has overseen a Confederation Cup campaign marked by heavy defeats, including back-to-back losses to CR Belouizdad (2-0 and 3-0). In their last three matches, Stellenbosch have conceded eight goals without finding the net.
Domestic Focus Ahead
With their continental hopes extinguished, Hunt and his men must now turn their attention back to domestic football. The Confederation Cup exit may sting, but it also clears the path for Stellenbosch to regroup and rebuild at home, away from the punishing spotlight of Africa’s premier competitions.
