South Africans call for Lalela Mswane to boycott the Miss Universe pageant
Less than a month after she has been crowned, drama has already started to unfold. South Africans all over social media are calling out for Lalela Mswane to boycott the Miss Universe pageant.
All this started when it was announced that the Miss Universe pageant would be held in Israel in December this year. Many South Africans called for Miss South Africa to boycott the Miss Universe pageant because it’s an Apartheid country. One of those thousands of voices is that of the former president’s grandson, Mandla Mandela. Mandla called for Lalela to boycott the event. He stated that Israel was an apartheid country and that peace-loving individuals should boycott the event.
Miss Malaysia and Miss Indonesia have already announced their intention to boycott the Miss Universe beauty pageant. Many South Africans have applauded the two beauties for that decision. They, however, continue to call their own to do the same. Miss South Africa, the organisation, has announced that they will not be getting involved in a political war of words. This further infuriated South Africans, and some are taking it to social media to say that they won’t stand with the organisation.

Former Miss Iraq commented on Mandla Mandela’s statement. She posted a video on Instagram calling him out as to why he as a man was telling an organisation for women and women empowerment what to do.

Lalela Mswane, who hasn’t had time to adjust to her crown as Miss South Africa, has found herself being attacked all over social media. People are attacking her character from all angles and criticising her for not boycotting the Miss Universe pageant. The beauty Queen is yet to make a statement regarding the issue, but the pressure is mounting.
