South African soccer star stabbed to death in Steenberg
The City of Cape Town has been robbed of pure talent. No doubt football fanatics are mourning and Mzansi at large. He was one of the celebrated football icons to many aspiring stars in his town despite not making it in at the highest football stages.
A Steenberg prominent football star was stabbed to death. Little is known about what really transpired but the police have since launched their investigations.
Unconfirmed reports have it that the father of two was stabbed whilst standing in for woman’s honour. Gershwin Campher, 29, died on Woodwing Circle on earlier this week. Yes, he might not have starred for the national team but he was very instrumental in the development of football in his area. He was once dupped one of the Mzansi’s finest during his hay days as a teen.
It is said the star was stabbed after he had an exchange with a gang member who seemed to be interested in one of his female friends. The victim’s father Henry Demas, 71, his son’s tragic death is too much to bear.
“What pains me most my son was one of the most friendly persons. I don’t know what really happened I only depend on eyewitnesses words,” he said.
The people who saw the knife do account that it was a big knife that stabbed him. It was one wound just beneath his arm. Those who saw the incident said that he was stabbed and only managed to make a few strides before he passed out.”

Henry says Gershwin’s friends came to tell him about the incident.
“I rushed out and when I got to the scene, his chest area was just full of blood. Upon arriving at the scene we made a call for an ambulance but they didn’t show up. Well, hours later they then responded. It’s so sad that my son died waiting for an ambulance, but I doubt he would have made it even if the paramedics got there earlier.”
Henry has it that he last saw his son that very same day he was stabbed at 8 pm.
“He was with his friend and there was a girl with them as they were walking. They met with the suspect who started swearing at the girl. And Gershwin told him that is not a way to speak to a lady and the suspect got angry, grabbed the knife, the others ran away and he still told my son to run but he refused.
“And that is when he was stabbed. My son was a man who loved peace, he was never a rude person. He loved playing as a midfielder for his team and he was not a gangster, but he was killed.”
Despite witnesses identifying the suspect, police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says no arrests have been made for the murder yet.
