South Africa SA Lockdown Level 3, this is what to expect, allowed and prohibited business to operate, alcohol sales and tobacco sales set to resume?
According to Police Minister Bheki Cele, government is considering moving South Africa to Level 3.
The committee overseeing the lockdown regulation is set to adjust the country to level 3. Despite an increase in infections, most provinces have managed to flatten the COVID-19 curve. Western Cape, Johannesburg, KwaZulu natal and Eastern Cape are responsible for more than half of the total infections.
Government faces an uphill task to balance the need to resume economic activity and ensure safety for citizens. According to police Minister, Level 4 was a success in most provinces thus chances are high some provinces will remain in Level 4 while others upgrades to Level 3.

Lockdown Level 3 business activities, what will be allowed and what will be restricted
While measures like social distancing, curfews, mandatory wearing of masks and maintaining hygiene will remain in place. These changes according to the COVID-19 government website are expected in level 3.
Allowed business or activities to operate in SA Lockdown Level 3
- The clothing, textiles and footwear manufacturing and retail industries will operate to full capacity. The likely reason is to cater for winter preparations.
- Stationary, books and hardware will be available, while schools are unlikely to open soon, education has to continue even at home.
- Sale and consumption of off-premise alcohol, subject to limited hours (Mon-Wed, 8-12). Subject to an approved industry plan on social distance and quantitative restrictions. No consumption on premises.
- Postal and courier services resume to support essential industries under Lockdown Level 3.
- Limited domestic air travel, with a restriction on the number of flights per day
- Full mining operations resume to full capacity.
What remains restricted?
- Curfews from 8pm to 5am will remain enforced.
- Public gatherings prohibited under lockdown Level 3. All gatherings including churches, political rallies, community gatherings, entertainment concerts, sport related and funeral gatherings remain restricted.
- Stay at home, other than essential travel for work and the purchase of essential items.
The sale of tobacco related products remains unclear.
