As South Africa prepares to get into level 3 of the lockdown, Health Minister has admitted to be breaking WHO guidelines about lockdown restrictions. He addmitted South Africa doesn’t qualify to move lockdowns due to the increasing covid-19 cases.
South Africa is struggling to flatten the curve and has seen the largest number of cases in a 24 hour period on Sunday. Mkhize attended the Covid-19 health projections meeting and spoke about the WHO guidelines.
“The WHO has said that we need to start showing that the numbers are declining, and infections are not increasing. We are nowhere near that. But he said that’s not the only thing South Africa had to take into account before deciding on moving down the levels of restrictions. We are balancing the issue of hunger, food security, job protection, the issue of the economy and the issue of constriction to social disruption. Those are the issues that have to be taken to account,” Mkhize said.
The country now has 17,200 cases with 312 deaths.
