Bertha Mwonzora, the daughter of minority opposition party MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora has justified deployment of the military to stop the planned 31 July protests in Zimbabwe. She went on Twitter to air her views on the planned July 31 protests against Zanu PF as they happen to clash with her father’s extra ordinary congress.
In a statement short of showing her support for Zanu PF, Bertha says the anti- corruption march as been hijacked by the Zanu PF Must Go campaign. Bertha also believes Zimbabwe is a Zanu PF stronghold by virtue of 67% of its population living in the rural areas.

“Anti looting and anti corruption are commendable causes and although the 31 July protest began as a call by all Zimbabweans to stop corruption it has been hijacked by Zanu PF must go. Objectively speaking, all Zanu PF must go campaigns alienate (eliminates) about 50% of Zimbabweans who voted for Zanu PF for whatever reason in 2018. Zimbabwe is currently a Zanu PF stronghold because of the 67% rural population that continue to be neglected by MDC campaigners. So if there are protests that threaten the currently constitutionally elected government then of course the army might be mobilised just like in any other country. Those who will be injured are the urban poor who will soon be forgotten by the nonstrategic leaders that put them in those conditions to begin with…yet to fight corruption we need Zanu PF supporters,” Mwonzora’s daughter said

Thokozani Khupe labelled participants of the July 31 protest as stupid and Mwonzora called the protests an effort to distract them from their extraordinary congress.
Meanwhile the organiser and leader of the July 31 march Jacob Ngarivhume has been castigated by Zimbabweans for refusing to denouncing Zanu PF. His motives are being questioned especially after he was pictured meeting the likes of Linda Masarira who is a known Zanu PF apologist. The general feeling among Zimbabweans is they cannot march for corruption only and no the cause which is believed to be Zanu PF.
