Times have been tough ever since the first lockdow. It hasn’t been easy for anyone, including artists. Sjava is one artist who has spoken up about how the lockdown affected him to the point of hin moving back home to KZN because of financial challenges.
With gigs being banned for most of last year, many artists struggled to make a living. Sjava is one of those and he has been honest about the situation. “We are not getting paid, we can’t work … so this is a very difficult time for artists right now. Truly speaking, we don’t know what we’re going to do now – our things have stopped. I’m even back home because I can’t make money. We’ve been suffering, we’re from the bottom – the ghetto – I’m sure we’ll survive”, he said.
However, 2020 was not all gloom for the indlalifa musician. Sjava managed to launch his own record label, 1020 Cartel alongside Mfanafuthi Ruff Nkosi. With his short stint on eHostela, the musician charmed viewers and had us all entertained. From his appearance on Isibaya, it was clear that Sjava loves the screen as much as viewers love seeing him in front of the camera. On his role on eHostela, Sjava had this to say;
“Being on set feels so good, the whole crew at Black Brain Productions, everyone has been good to me, I’m having a great time. It feels good that I’m acting again. Me playing a bad guy is art – art is all about entertainment – so for me I don’t look at the character as a bad guy, I look at it as me offering my talent and my skill to the people with hopes that they enjoy what we do.”
Sjava also had his rape charges by Lady Zamar thrown out of court. It was the perfect ending to a very difficult year.
This year we can all expect another fire EP from the musician!
