South African music sensation Sjava is among the artists who have submitted their albums for the 66th Grammy Awards 2024 nominations. The award-winning singer, whose real name is Jabulani Hadebe, announced on social media that his album Isibuko has been submitted for the Best African Music Performance category.
The album, which was released by his record label 1020 Cartel, has been a huge success, hitting more than 40 million streams and earning him five nominations at the South African Music Awards. Sjava also recently won the Red Bull Sound Clash SA competition, cementing his status as one of the most popular artists in the country.
Sjava is not the only South African artist who is hoping to get a Grammy nomination. Rapper Nasty C, who recently became a father, has also submitted his new album I Love It Here for several categories, according to his record label Def Jam. Nasty C has been making waves internationally, collaborating with artists such as Ariana Grande and Drake.
Another rising star is Uncle Waffles, a performer who has been touring the world and headlining festivals such as Coachella. She revealed on her Instagram that she is in the running for two Grammy nominations, marking the two year anniversary of her breakthrough. Tyla, a new sensation who has been getting bookings abroad, is also among the contenders for the prestigious awards.
The 66th Grammy Award nominees will be announced on 10 November and the awards ceremony will take place on 4 February next year. The South African music industry and fans are eagerly awaiting the results, hoping to see their favorite artists get recognized on the global stage.
