Sipho Ncube’s Murder Suspect Battling For Life After Suicide Attempt
A man among those suspected to have killed cellphone dealer Sipho Ncube is battling for his life in a local hospital after a failed suicide attempt.
Elvis Dongo Saungwema is battling his life after attempting to slit open his throat to take his own life for reasons linked to the murder trial. His lawyer Simbarashe Zuze recently appeared before a Harare Magistrate for their routine remand appearance.
The case attracted the attention of Zimbabweans as Saungwena is jointly accused with Dylon Balani and Munyaradzi Mawadze, the son of Masvingo High Court resident judge, Justice Garainesu Mawadze.
The state alleges that the three suspects killed Ncube by slitting open his throat with a sharp object, killing him instantly.
The trio allegedly lured Sipho into their car purportedly with an interest to buy cellphones. The proposed to drive to Waterfalls suburb in Harare to which Sipho agreed to, before diverting the route and heading to Ruwa via Epworth.
They robbed the deceased of hs cellphones and an unknown amount of cash before killing him and dumping his body in Ruwa.
Sipho’s relatives became suspicious after he failed to return home in time, prompting them to file a police report about his disappearance during the same night.
The judge’s son Mawadze is reported to have sent a text message using Sipho’s phone indicating that he had been kidnapped, in a bid to cover up.
The death of the cellphone dealer sparked outrage on social media as there were fears that Mawadze would use his connections to get away with murder.
