Shocking: SABC bags 89 nominations at the annual Radio Awards 2021
It seems as if SABC is already in the celebratory mode after being nominated 89 times for the slated annual radio awards. Yes SABC has bagged 89 nominations at the Radio Awards 2021.
However, Radio 2000 has 12 nominations. However on the other hand both Umhlobo Wenene FM and Thobela FM with 10 nominations each. These stations are the only few stations poising some threats to SABC. The annual awards are slated for July.
In the wake of this big achievement, SABC has already released a press statement in regards to the nomination. Group executive of corporate affairs and marketing Gugu Ntuli said they were pleased that the corporation’s radio portfolio had proven that its programming remained excellent and dependable.
The awards honour outstanding achievements across campus, community, public broadcast and commercial radio. Radio Awards, entries were adjudicated by a panel of 40 judges and reviewed by auditors BDO South Africa.
However, this year, entries were required to be broadcast on FM/AM (and in the online radio category) between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2020. Winners will be announced on 16 July.

The nominations have even sparked debate. Mzansi has it that how can a station bags 89 nominations. In the mix of things, the station has received backlash in Mzansi for other reasons. The nominations come barely a few days after the public broadcaster was implicated in a se_xual harassment scandal.
Also, Pearl Modiadie has it that she was se_xually abused but the issue was never addressed. Some daring evidence has leaked on Social Media indicating that Pearl did report the harassment. The broadcaster is being blamed for protecting those in power at the expense of workers.
Likewise, her 5 year legacy at Metro FM has sadly been tainted by se_xual harassment allegations. Pearl Modiadie‘s ordeal has shone the light on other claims made by a few employees who work for the SABC and Tweeps want answers.
However, Sunday World broke a story of Pearl’s sexual harassment claims at the hands of her former manager at Metro FM. When the story broke, Pearl expressed joy that finally he would be brought to the book as she had been silent for far too long.
